Artificer from Eberron Player's Guide

There are a number of considerations the Rolemaster GM has to make when it comes to Professions in Eberron. Eberron is, barely, medieval. Much of its wonders are magical technology. Knowing this, adapting Eberron to Rolemaster is an easy affair. You have to know that certain professions have changed. Mostly in moniker. So, the Allowed Professions are divided into Rolemaster Classic and Rolemaster Fantasy Roleplaying.

Rolemaster Classic Professions[]

Character Law (and Campaign Law)[]

All 20 professions are available. That is from the Realm of Arms: Fighter, thief, rogue, and warrior monk. From the Realm of Essence: Magician, Illusionist, and the alchemist has been renamed to Artificer. From the realm of Channeling: Cleric, Animist, and Healer. From the realm of Mentalism: Mentalist, Lay Healer, and Seer. Hybrid casters: Sorcerer, Mystic, and Astrologer. Semi-Casters: Monk, Ranger, and Bard.

The Rolemaster Companion (I)[]

The following Professions work best in Eberron. Archmage, barbarian, burglar, druid (as a replacement for the Animist), variant clerics (which will be covered under faiths of Eberron), paladin, and nightblade.

Rolemaster Companion II[]

The following professions from the Rolemaster Companion II are found in Eberron. Non-Spell Users: Dancer, Scholar, and Trader. Semi-spell users: Beastmaster (good for house Vadalis), Dervish (Valanar Elves are of this profession), Paladin, and Warrior Mage (mostly among Aundair's army). Hybrid spell-users: Necromancer, warlock, witch. Pure spell users: conjuror, sage, runemaster, and shaman.

Rolemaster Fantasy Roleplaying Professions[]

Mentalist

A fantasy mentalist.

Rolemaster Fantasy Roleplaying[]

Non Spell Users[]

  • Fighter: A fighter is an all-purpose combat expert skilled with a variety of weapons and tactics.
  • Rogue: A rogue is a versatile adventurer capable of agility, stealth, cunning combat, picking locks, and finding and disarming many traps.
  • Thief: Thieves are non spell users who are specialists at maneuvering and manipulating. They have the easiest time learning mechanical skills (such as picking locks and disarming traps) and are fairly good at picking up weapon skills.

Semi-Spell Users[]

  • Ranger: The ranger is a skilled hunter and tracker with a strong affinity for the wild.
  • Dabbler: Dabblers are semi spell users who combine the realm of Essence with the realm of Arms. Their base spells deal with stealth, detection, perception, movement and manipulating locks and traps.
  • Bard: A bard is a versatile class, capable in both combat, the casting of magic as well as performing skills.

Pure Spell Users[]

  • Cleric: The Cleric is a divine servant of gods and other celestial forces and does their bidding through their combat prowess and divine spells.
  • Magician: The magician is a pure spell user of the essence that specializes in the elemental attack spells.
  • Mentalist: Mentalists are pure spell users of Mentalism who have concentrated on spells that deal with the interaction of minds. In many ways, they are like psions from D&D.

Character Law[]

Martial Peak

A typical warrior monk.

Non spell users[]

  • Layman: A profession for non-adventuring types. Like the blacksmith or tavern keeper.
  • Warrior Monk: Warrior monks are masters of the martial arts.

Pure Spell Users[]

  • Illusionists: Illusionists are spell users of Essence that specialize in spells of illusion and misdirection.
  • Animist: The animist is a divine servant of nature, much like the druid.
  • Lay Healer: Lay healers are those that help heal others through their mental spells. This profession is almost always related to house Jorasco.

Hybrid Spell Users[]

  • Healer: A hybrid of mentalism and channeling, the healer profession is mostly monopolized by House Jorasco.
  • Mystic: A hybrid of Mentalism and Essence, the Mystic specializes in spells of subtle misdirection and change.
  • Sorcerer: The sorcerer combines the powers of channeling and essence, and specialize in spells of destruction.
Paladin

A paladin of the Sovereign Host.

Semi spell users[]

  • Paladin: Paladins in Eberron are semi-spell users that concentrate on spells that enhance their combat and also protection.
  • Monk: Monks are semi-spell users of the Essence that deal in spells that help them control their bodies and minds.
  • Magent: A mentalism user that combines the realm of mentalism with arms. They specialize in spells that deal with missions of subterfuge. Some assassins of House Thuranni are magents.

Arcane Companion[]

Arcanist, Wizard, and Chaotic, and Mage Hunter. The last is usually in Reidra, hunting the Heirs of Ohr Kaluun.

Fire and Ice: the Elemental Companion[]

Pure Spell Users[]

  • Elementalist: Elementalists in Eberron are rare. They are typically taught by the Master-apprentice model. Though there is one university that teaches Elementalists. That is found in Aundair, in the small town of Arcanix. All elementalists trace their elemental lineage to the dragons of Argonessen.
  • Elemental Priest: An elemental priest gains his or her powers from an elemental aspect of one of the Sovereign Host.
  • Elemental Champion: The rarest of all elemental themed professions, except for the Arcane Elementalist. There is probably one in each of the armies of the Five Nations, most of which were defeated during the Last War.
  • Arcane Elementalist: a spell caster that can summon true elemental material to the material. The rarest of the rare professions.

Essence Companion[]

Runemage, mana molder, and warrior mage

Martial Arts Companion[]

Both the Taoist Monk and the Zen Monk are available.

Treasure Companion[]

All Alchemists are available, although they are renamed Artificers!

Channeling Companion[]

Summoner, warlock, and mythic (renamed as the Exorcist of the Silver Flame), and Priest (covered under Faiths of Eberron)

Mentalism Companion[]

Pure Spell User[]

  • Seer: The seer comes in two flavors. The first is the draconic seer, or dragon seer. Dragons who use their seer abilities to divine the Draconic Prophecy. Seers among the lesser races, the humans, elves, and so forth, do not usually divine the Draconic Prophecy, but seek to know the details of the past, present, and future in relevance to the present. Seers are employed by the various religions of the world to seek the future, and thus some (like the Kalashtar) seek to know the best strategies and methods of dealing with the future.

Hybrid Spell Users[]

  • Astrologer: The astrologer works in Eberron both as a draconic astrologer and a "lesser" race's astrologer. Most dragon astrologers use their powers to divine the Draconic Prophecy. They believe this is revealed by Chronepsis, the dragon god of fate and prophecy. Astrologers gain their powers from Chronepsis. As there are no Sovereigns that are related to time and prophecy.
